Supporting Solomon Islands to reach 100% renewable energy by 2050
The BPP recently welcomed four new business partnerships to power up small-scale, off-grid renewable energy in remote and rural areas in Solomon Islands at a special event in Honiara.
The partnerships included:
☀️ securing access to renewable energy in Central province’s Savo Island with Archipelago Energy.
☀️ energising the Malaita community with affordable solar power with Superfly, Mai-Ma’asina Green Belt and Save the Children Solomon Islands.
☀️ generating energy security for essential healthcare at Tetere’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Guadalcanal province with Superfly.
🌊 powering Western province’s Vavanga community with affordable renewable energy with Pelena.
These Off-Grid Renewable Energy Partnerships are part of the Australian Government’s Pacific Climate Infrastructure Financing Partnership (PCIFP) initiative to expand the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific’s (AIFFP) climate investments. It does this by partnering with businesses to deliver reliable and sustainable renewable energy to remote and rural communities in the Pacific and Timor-Leste, implemented by the Business Partnerships Platform.
Check out this short film from the launch event, featuring the Australian High Commissioner, H.E. Mr Rod Hilton, Timothy Gill from AIFFP and the new partners:
There are now 13 Off-Grid Renewable Energy Partnerships across six different countries, representing a total investment of AUD 5.8 million. This includes AUD 3.6 million by the Australian Government, with the remaining investment by partners through cash or in-kind contributions. The PCIFP is set to launch a new A$75 million long-term off-grid renewable energy program later this year. Stay up to date here on the AIFFP website here.
