Australia invests $2.5 million AUD to support the Mekong Delta in adapting to climate change

With a total new investment capital of 2,5 million AUD, the Australian government established relationships with 4 new partners in the Mekong Delta, including the partner implementing the initiative to promote agricultural business to adapt to climate change. for women.
Speaking at the event in Can Tho City, Australian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Sarah Hooper said “Australia is always committed to being a sustainable development partner of the Mekong Delta. The Mekong Delta Climate Change Adaptation Partnership is launched to support the efforts of the Vietnamese and Australian Governments to meet the challenges of climate change.”
Since 2016, the Australian government has invested over AUD 9,4 million under the Business Partnership Platform Program (BPP) in Vietnam. Of this, more than 4,3 million AUD was poured into the Mekong Delta region.
The partnerships under the BPP Program in the Mekong Delta aim to support the efforts of Vietnam and Australia through piloting new models and technologies in climate change adaptation, expanding the scale of The initiative has been successful and brought important social, gender equality and development benefits to communities in the Mekong Delta.
In August, on the occasion of Australia and Vietnam celebrating the 8th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced a support package of 50 million AUD on climate change adaptation for the Mekong Delta, including the Program BPP program on climate change adaptation.
Since its inception in 2016, the BPP Program has established 16 business partnerships in Vietnam, of which 7 partnerships have been implemented in the Mekong Delta.
