Women’s Agri-Business Climate Adaptation Accelerator
Applications have now closed.
As part of the broader call for climate adaptation partnerships in the Mekong Delta, BPP is seeking to launch a women’s agri-business climate adaptation accelerator to support micro and small enterprises that are women-led and/or delivering greater income earning opportunities or other benefits for women. The accelerator will focus on enterprises that are already implementing transformative agricultural practices but need support to upscale and/or businesses that are providing innovative services to the agriculture sector to enable it to respond better to the impact of climate change.

Call for Climate Adaptation Partnerships in the Mekong Delta
The Business Partnerships Platform (BPP) is calling for expressions of interest from potential business partners with an innovative idea to support climate adaptation and resilience and deliver social, gender and development benefits in the agriculture sector in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.
Vietnam and Australia are committed to tackling the challenges of climate change and share net zero by 2050 ambitions. Vietnam’s commitment is now enshrined into law, and is underpinned by the National Climate Change Strategy to 2050 and National Adaptation Plan, both of which highlight the potential for climate adaptative approaches in the agriculture sector.
Agriculture and aquaculture are the main livelihoods in the Mekong Delta and the area produces 50% of Vietnam’s food, including rice, fruit, vegetables, livestock and fisheries. However, climate change impacts – particularly sea-level rise, increasing salinity, flood, and drought – alongside unsustainable land and water management practices, pose a threat to the region’s ongoing productivity and liveability.
Vietnam’s Prime Minister HE Pham Minh Chinh approved in 2022 a Master Plan for the Mekong Delta, with priorities including climate-adaptive crops, sustainable rice and shrimp production, organic or safer food production, water management and disaster response infrastructure.
The BPP’s 2023 call for Climate Adaptation Partnerships in the Mekong Delta looks to support these efforts by developing partnerships with inclusive businesses and their partners working in the agriculture sector to trial new models and technologies for climate adaptation, or scale proven methods, while delivering important social, gender equality, and development benefits for Mekong communities.
Eligibility, Selection and Funding Details*
• The BPP’s Climate Adaptation Partnerships in the Mekong Delta offer from AUD250,000 to AUD750,000 in funding.
• Partnerships should seek to achieve climate adaptation outcomes while improving lives and livelihoods and reducing future risks.
• Partnership concepts should support solutions that address specific climate impacts on women and/or create opportunities for women.
• Partnerships are also strongly encouraged that seek to improve outcomes for people with disability and/or socially diverse groups.
• Partnerships comprise either an individual organisation or a consortium of organisations, and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
• Partnerships must have at least one partner legally registered to operate in Vietnam and one partner from the private sector.
• Previous experience working in the Mekong Delta is desirable.
• A co-contribution is required to ensure that both DFAT and partners are investing in the partnership. The co-contribution must match or exceed the DFAT investment through cash (preferable) or in-kind contributions.
• Partnerships can range from a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 24 months. Implementation should begin by September 2023 and be completed no later than September 2025.
*More detailed criteria will be provided to organisations that are invited to submit a formal concept. The above criteria are subject to change.

Expressions of interest in English or Vietnamese are currently being accepted on a rolling basis using the form below until 18 April 2023.

• Submit an Initial Concept (by invitation)
• Shortlisted applicants are supported to submit a full proposal
• Full proposals are assessed and successful applicants proceed to due diligence and contracting
• Kick off meetings are held to develop a workplan, a monitoring plan, and agree on partnership “ways of working”
• Implementation begins!
