New BPP guide to support businesses unlock the potential of disability inclusion
We are delighted to launch our BPP Disability Inclusion Guide, which has been designed to help businesses integrate disability inclusion into their operations.
One in six people globally have a disability, with most people experiencing a disability in their lifetimes, even temporarily, due to injuries, illnesses, or other life events. Disability refers to physical, mental, cognitive or sensory impairments which may hinder a person’s full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.
Disability inclusion means ensuring that people with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in all aspects of life, including employment, education, and community activities.
It makes good business sense to be inclusive, as inclusive businesses have been found to:
- be more innovative
- cultivate higher employee morale
- tap into a broader and more diverse talent and supplier pool.
A 2018 study by Accenture found that companies that champion disability inclusion achieve, on average, 28% higher revenue and a 30% higher profit margins than their less-inclusive peers. In fact, the International Labour Organisation calculates that excluding people with disabilities costs countries 3 to 7% of annual GDP.
The BPP Disability Inclusion Guide highlights the benefits of disability inclusion and provides practical steps to achieve a more inclusive business. It focusses on how to:
- attract and retain employees with a disability
- create a diverse and inclusive supply chain
- access the market potential of customers with a disability.
